21 Days of Downsizing – Day 20

Welcome to my 21 day series of downsizing my NYC shoebox apartment for a move to Australia! Alex + I have already downsized about 90% of our belongings, but I’ve got some “on the fence” items from my closet and I could use a bit of help!

If you know me well, you know that while I’ve come around on downsizing my fashuun, I will *gulp* NEVER downsize my stuffed animals. Cuz #crazystuffedanimallady

So, tune in to help me decide what closet items to keep or not to keep! Simultaneously, I’ll introduce you to one of my stuffed animal friends, cuz I could NEVER downsize them!

Two Days Left!

Back where it began, with Peter Rabbit! 19 stuffed animals ago, I asked you to join me on a journey of downsizing. A downsizing of my closet + apartment belongings for a move to Australia.

I couldn’t have anticipated how meaningful this project would become when I thought of the idea after asking Alex to take a picture with Peter Rabbit one night while contemplating if I loved my pink coat or not.

It’s hard to let go of things that hold meaning, but through processing them in a way that’s also quite meaningful, I’ve found it truly helpful and easier to let go. Thank you for all your feedback + love! It’s helped immensely!

Day 20 – Down the Rabbit Hole

Meet Peter Rabbit.

Peter Rabbit is an icon. Thanks to Beatrix Potter, he’s hopped into many households and become quite beloved.

Our Peter Rabbit is a sneaky troublemaker with a huge heart who’s also working on building up his self confidence.

Laffy the kookaburra loves to pick on Peter Rabbit and steal his blue coat. Upon doing so, he will chortle, “You are NOT a real rabbit! You are NOT a real rabbit!”

Peter doesn’t tell Laffy, but he ponders deeply at the exclamation.

Why am I not a real rabbit?

Is it because my blue coat and only my blue coat is what identifies me as Peter?

Otherwise, am I just a tan rabbit? Like any old bunny in the warren?

Peter’s blue coat sure was identifiable.

But it took the imaginations of all those who loved his story to keep his magic alive.

There was a power that surpassed the color of his coat, or even the coat itself.

Peter Rabbit had an audience who believed.

Now For Fashuun: To Keep or Not To Keep

On the fence about the below items. To keep or not to keep? Comment below!

  • pink coat…still deciding and put it to the side in my “maybe” pile that’s still undergoing whittling!
  • rainbow purse…the handle is a bit wonky but it’s still a love cuz of the wide stripes and vegetal colors (natural dyes from mr. mcgregor’s garden?)

Stay tuned for the tomorrow’s finale…
